Learn A New Skill: The Social Kitchen Theatre at Britomart
Get the lowdown on how to create raw, organic treats from Auckland’s health food queen, littlebird owner Megan May, or enjoy an ice cream masterclass by Giapo Grazioli and a Sunday session in South East Asian cuisine with Cafe Hanoi executive chef Jason Van Dorsten. All of these awesome foodie events are taken place at Britomart’s Takutai Square all weekend long as part of Heart of the City’s Restaurant Month. Make Like A Lady: High Tea + Fashion at Hotel DeBrett
Spend your Sunday afternoon in total style at legendary inner-city Hotel Debrett style watching a salon-style fashion show, presented by Hudson Boutique. Set in the all-weather light filled atrium, it’s a chance to grab your girlfriends and feel refined while you sip and savour high tea from quirky mismatched vintage cups, with a delicious array of sweets and savouries and a glass of Cloudy Bay Pelorus Sparkling. Listen To Local Music: The Nature Of The Flute at Nathan Homestead
The musicians from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra are bringing the haunting sounds of the flute to your neighbourhood in Auckland. Friday night’s performance takes place at 6.30pm at the beautiful Nathan Homestead in Manurewa. Kathryn Moorhead, APO Associate Principal Flute and fellow musicians present a colourful programme of enchanting music that showcases the charm and versatility of her instrument. Pieces played will include Telemann Concerto in G major, TWV 43: G1 (from the ‘Paris Quartets’), Reger Serenade for Flute, Violin and Viola, op. 141a, Helen Fisher Te Tangi A Te Matui and Mozart Flute Quartet in D Major, K.285. Enjoy A Beer On Sunday: La Manouche at Hallertau
If you love a bit of Gypsy-inspired jazz and a good craft brew there’s a Sunday afternoon gig for you. Head out to Hallertau Brewbar in Riverhead for a good dose of sunshine, one of their legendary brews, a feed and a performance from Club Manouche. Club Manouche are a Django Reinhard-inspried Gypsy swing jazz quartet, featuring Peter Scott on upright bass, Philip Beatson on guitar, James Sneyd on violin and Steve Sherry on rhythm guitar. The free performance starts at 1.30pm and finished at 4.30pm and is all part of Hallertau’s Month Of Sundays in August.
A Fantastic Freebie: Winter Wine, Shellfish and Seafood Festival at Auckland Fish Market
If you’ve never seen a professional shuck an oyster then you can’t go past checking out the NZ oyster opening championships this weekend as part of the fun at the inaugural Winter Wine, Shellfish and Seafood Festival which is being held to promote NZ shellfish, seafood and wine in a fun and relaxed environment at well-known fishy spot, The Auckland Fish Market.
