That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of Localist’s five must-dos so you can make the most of it! Buy local, love local!
1) Eat An Amazing Cheese Sandwich: The Melt Pop-Up at Craft Kitchen
Melt away those winter blues with this cool, local foodie event happening every Friday and Saturday night in July at Ponsonby’s Craft Kitchen. Put on by the crew at Little Eats, it sees these passionate local chefs take over Craft Kitchen’s premise and serve up a comfort food menu that features grilled cheese sandwiches, desserts and sides. For more info, head to Little Eats.
2) Enjoy Local Dance: Transfer At Q Theatre
Legendary local dance company Footnote bring the Q Theatre to life on Friday evening with a devastatingly beautiful and artistic performance of Transfer - two new works by New Zealand choreographers who live off shore. Jeremy Nelson is based in New York while Joshua Rutter is based in Berlin. It’s rare to see their works so is well worth getting along. The event takes place at the Loft, starts at 8pm and will set you back between $20 - $35, depending on where you want to sit. For more info, head here.
3) One To Make A Diary Note For: Kia Ora Shorts Film Festival For Matariki at Corban Estate Arts Centre
Go West next weekend to catch the final screening of the short film festival as part of this year’s Matariki. Taking place at the Corban Estate Arts Centre, for just $8, you can watch a series of Maori-made and Maori short films that have been curated by the Wairoa Maori Film Festival. The films include Taniwha, Tits On A Bull, Ow What! and more. Tickets sell out so it pays to make a diary note now and book. For more info, head here.
4) Cheer On Our Team: SKYCITY Mystics vs Mainland Tactix at The Trusts Arena
It’s the most important game of the season for the SKYCITY Mystics. If they beat the Tactix on Saturday, they will make their way into the NZ Conference play offs. But if they lose their season is over. The game takes place on Saturday afternoon from 4.10pm. For more info on ticket pricing, head here.
5) Buy Local: Hobsonville Point Markets
One of Auckland’s favourite weekend markets, Hobsonville Point Market is an excellent family morning outing. Taking place on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm, stallholders have some of the most interesting and unique food and crafts available to buy in Auckland. A fun idea that Auckland locals recommend is to take the ferry from Auckland CBD and spend the morning in the unique community of Hobsonville.
