It's A Kiwi Tradition: Chewy, golden ANZAC biscuits are a New Zealand bakery staple.

Oaty and delectable, Anzac biscuits are a Kiwi tradition to commemorate the special day. While they are quick and easy to make in the kitchen, it's hard to get the perfect mix of chewy 'n' soft goodness. That's why we've scoured New Zealand to find the great locals making awesome Anzac biscuits. If you want to indulge in this time-honoured treat, check out these little finds. And if you have one you want to share your love for on their Localist listing, why not make your recommendation now? Cuppa anyone?

Kaye's Bakery, Invercargill

Known for creating the best Anzac biscuits in the South Island (and possibly NZ), I love the fact that Kaye's Bakery had to employ more staff this year to fulfil an order to create special batches of biccie to go inside special memorial World War I tins, which are available throughout New Zealand. They are chewy, oaty and delectably good - even if you are in the North Island, you'll be able to find these gems.

Stone Oven Bakery, Hokitika

Want a refreshing take on an Anzac biscuit? The owner of Stone Oven Bakery in Hokitika is doing a very special Anzac Day bun to commemorate 100 years and tie in with the town's special memorial white crosses that mark the Coasters who fought and died in the war. Dicey's creations are stuff of local legends so I know his spiced bun won't disappoint.

Martha's Pantry, Wellington

Home baking done to perfection is what the crew at Martha's Pantry are all about and come Anzac Day, their baked-with-love creations are some of the best in New Zealand. Not only do they do a mean Anzac bikkie but they've also got something a little special on the shelves that the locals in the know tell me is the absolute treat of the year. They've produced a selection of their incredible cupcakes with edible poppies on top. Now that's worth a flight to Welly just to indulge!

Bakers Delight,

This little local is all about community and serving up troops in the Bay of Plenty. Owner Beate Sommer is baking bread, frying bacon and making huge batches of Anzac biscuits for the region's Great Anzac Day brunch. Needless to say, Beate and her team know how to make a delicious Anzac cookie so if you are in town, pick one up.

Little & Friday North Shore, Auckland

I fell in love and got flown to heaven when I first tried an Anzac biscuit from the clever bakers at Little & Friday. Every sweet treat creation here is a work of art and their classic version of the oaty cookie is no exception. I live out West and have travelled over the Bridge to sample their bikkie, served of course with a good Kiwi flat white.

Foxtrot Parlour, Auckland

For chewy, soft and delicious Anzac biccie awesomeness, I can't go past the beautiful creations at Foxtrot Parlour. I have it on good authority that these traditional Kiwi treats will be on shelves from Thursday morning so head along to Ponsonby Central if you want to indulge in a holiday taste sensation. It's an experience you'll never forget.

Mamata Bakehouse, Auckland

If you're looking for an egg-free Anzac biscuit, Mamata Bakehouse in the West Lynn shops is the perfect place to stop, drop and eat a really, really good commemorative biscuit. I picked up a special pack of five cookies for just $7.50 - an awesome Anzac Day special.
