Ben loved Chapel Bar & Bistro
This iconic Ponsonby watering hole attracts all sorts of characters from the in-crowd to its many misfits. So if you're keen for an ice cold Heineken with the game, as well as heaps of atmosphere and some interesting encounters with the locals then Chapel's the place to be. Pop down, grab a bite to eat and settle in for the biggest Wednesday in sport ever!
Ben loved The Patriot Devonport
Cheeky bartenders, a proper pint of Guinness, an amazing outdoor area and plenty of screens make this the perfect place for soaking up any epic sporting event. Come down, spin a yarn and get into the big game atmosphere at Patriot Devonport!
William loved Doolan Brothers Newmarket
They have the $20 deal with a choice of 1 of 3 pies or a roast with a glass of tap beer! I love the atmosphere and layout of the place, with TVs situated all around the place, you won't miss a minute of the action especially when the All Blacks are on!
Rory loved British Isles Inn
Traditional British style pub with separate restaurant area. A good place to catch the rugby on the TV with a pint and also a good value place to bring the family for lunch on a Sunday. They have Fat Yak on tap - one of the few places I've found it in Auckland.
Black Salt Bar and Eatery, New Lynn, Auckland
One of West Auckland's sweetest sports bars - Black Salt in New Lynn is the place to be if you want a delicious meal and a fresh pint while you watch the All Blacks win (touch wood). It's a little more low key than a lot of the bars on my list but the screen's big and the beers are cold so come down and get into it!
The Flying Moa, Mount Wellington, Auckland
Live out South and can’t be bothered to travel into town to watch a Rugby World Cup game? This Mt Wellington establishment is a classic New Zealand pub - a nod to the watering holes of yesteryear. Plus they will be serving up delicious breakfast and drinks with this years early World Cup All Blacks Matches - I'll definitely be up first thing in the coming months to watch the All Blacks make history all over again!
The Fox Sports Bar, Auckland CBD
This place is a classic sports bar, serving up all the cold poured beersies and hearty pub fare that you could ever want. There's a million screens so no matter which way you look, you'll get a top view of the All Blacks showing the rest of the world what's up come Rugby World Cup time, plus they whip up a pretty decent breakfast!
Suze loved The Elephant Wrestler
I started going to Elephant Wrestler around the time of the rugby world cup as we used to go watch the games there. Great location and accommodate a large group of people. I have also come here several occasions for food which is hasn't been the best, always looks amazing but can never quite get the flavours right. Always comes out rather bland. I would recommend coming for a drink and the atmosphere.
Helene loved Cavalier Tavern Limited
For all of the rugby fans I know, the only place in town to watch the game is the Cavalier Tavern on College Hill. The Cav is a major meeting place on game night, and always have several screens on the go, bar specials and more. It is great for bigger groups as there is plenty of space, and the pub fare on offer is definitely a notch or two above the rest.
Charlotte loved The Kingslander
The Kingslander is the perfect place to head along to and watch the rugby. It's a stones throw from Eden Park so you can feel close to the action (if it's a local game) and there are always plenty of punters gathering to cheer on their teams. Settle in in front of the big screens - there's even one outside so that the smokers don't miss out - order yourself a beverage and perhaps something from the huge menu and make a night of it. And if rugby isn't your thing maybe check out the quiz night instead!
