As winter comes to a close, there's no better time to celebrate a final fling with our favourite New Zealand food - the humble pie. Yep, pie week runs from August 29 to September 4 and is the best excuse yet to get out and sample all the flavours passionate local foodies are encasing in pastry. From a seriously gourmet mince and cheese pie in Ponsonby to a classic potato top in Kingsland to a local gem known for its flaky pasty in Kumeu, these are the 10 pies Auckland locals recommend to wrap your lips around. Plus, if you have a favourite local pie shop in your Auckland suburb that you love, share your recommendation on Localist to help that local business get more customers. Happy eating, Auckland!

Kylie loved Heaven Scent
The weeks our Localist Kombi was at Victoria Park Markets I had just one craving and that was for a Heaven Scent pie. These clever locals do the most delicious chicken pies. They are honestly one in a million. Using organic and free range wherever possible, their signature cafe on Auckland's Albert Street is the perfect place to try one of their pies. They are some of the best in Auckland.
Jo loved Standing Room Espresso

Great coffee, delicious food and really great service. A tiny cafe that has become our favourite.

Vanessa loved Greenland Bakery & Cafe
Amazing pies everytime! Love the pastry of the pie!
Kylie loved Euro Patisserie

A winner of the Bakel's Pie Awards, Euro Patisserie is a hidden gem of a bakery located in Torbay on Auckland's North Shore. Locals rave about their chicken pies and their pastry. It's known to be some of the best pie pastry in all of Auckland. I love the fact that you can buy a pie from Euro Patisserie and it's still hot by the time you get to one of our most beautiful and sheltered beaches Long Bay, which is just a stone's throw up the road.

Chris loved Kolhen's Kitchen
Fantastic pies with unique flavaours and amazing cakes. An artisan bakery worth checking out.
Best Pies in Town
We drive from one side of Auckland to get the pies here. Pastry melts in your mouth and the fillings are 'REAL' - favourite is definitely the Lamb Mint. A must try if your a pie aficionado
Kate loved Crafty Baker

These guys really fill my heart with hope. Such good artisan quality foods, quirky and innovative marketing, great sweets, amaing breads and generous pies! Lee and company are gracious and I always stock up when I go because the bread freezes really well and there's none better out west.. Thanks for the great baking!

Kylie loved Little & Friday Tuck Shop

If you frequent Auckland's CBD, the divine baking that is Little & Friday's signature was once hard to find but now no longer. The clever folks behind what I believe to be one of the best bakeries in New Zealand have opened an awesome little city branch with the super-cool name Tuck Shop tagged on the end. That's because all of their treats - did someone say mince and cheese pie for lunch today? - are delivered from their Newmarket bakery to their latest brick site on Durham Lane. It's warm, inviting and smells delicious. I love the fact that all of the usual Little & Friday treats are available from their lip-smackingly good, cream-filled doughnuts to perfect pies. It's my favourite new winter stop.

Kylie loved Raven & Cook
This Epsom cafe is a hidden gem for pie lovers. I visited on a wet, rainy afternoon and enjoyed one of the best beef cheek pies I have ever eaten. The pastry was light, flaky and a just-right texture while the savoury filling was full of chunky meat, excellent gravy and just a smattering of cheese. A delightful way to warm up during winter.
Suze loved Scratch Bakers

Scratch Bakers has a wide range of tasty pies on offer. I have only tried their Confit Duck, potato and wild mushroom pie, which was amazing but I am definitely keen to try one of their other interesting pies.
