Matapouri Bay, Northland
If you're new in town and looking for THE spot to soak up the sun and splash away the heat of the day, it's got to be at Matapouri Bay's Mermaid Pools. They're just a short hike over the hill and around the corner, the tracks are well maintained and visible to most. Just follow the trail of people heading to and from the north end of the bay. It's a real postcard of a swimming hole surrounded by rocks to chill on and jump off of. Bring your mates, or kids, it's suited to everyone. P.S keep an eye out for the odd mermaid!
Cardboard Cathedral, Christchurch
A tourist destination of epic proportions, Cardboard Cathedral is a great example of transitional architecture in Christchurch. Stay for an event or service, or just have a wander through the marvelous building.
Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours, Matamata
OMG what can I say?? It's absolutely amazing - been more than once it was so great. My husband hasn't seen the movies or read the books, doesn't even know what a Hobbit is... but he now has an appreciation for the movies and just how Peter Jackson has put us on the map!! I love the Green Dragon and the Apple Cider is so thirst quenching. I can't wait to go again!!
Castlepoint Beach, Masterton
You see this iconic beach and lighthouse in postcards and all over instagram! It's definately an iconic landmark for the Wairarapa. A beautiful "insta" worthy beach that's an essential must see if you are in the area. People all over the country know this beach because of it's lighthouse, go and take a look!
Hawke's Bay Trails, Napier
A network of mainly off-road cycling and walking pathways connect the settlements of Hawke’s Bay across the Heretaunga Plains. You can take the coastal Water Ride, Wineries Ride or the Landscapes Ride. Getting on your bike is a fun and easy way to visit the iconic wineries, orchards and experience some of the amazing eateries the area is known for.
