Late nights or weekends, no matter how old the kids are, it's always a treat to sit down for a drink and something tasty to eat at one of the best family friendly pubs in New Zealand. I could hang out at this place for hours and they do a really good job at catering to the kids. They’ve got a laid back family atmosphere which suits my whanau very well. And I love their kids’ menu with yummy dishes like beef nachos. Although their normal menu is so good the kids are usually keen to eat that instead!

Kids can run wild at the Opononi Hotel. I love how you can sit up on the deck and keep an eagle eye on them mucking around at the beach just meters away. They have lots of kid friendly food like pizza bread, thick cut fries and a banana boat for dessert. The kids will love it!

Quaint and adorable. The gardens are beautiful and you can relax outside barefoot with a cold bottle of suds. The staff is always friendly and the food is consistent and delicious. My favorite place to hang out and relax.

Friendly, relaxed pub with great food. Garden bar is perfect for sunny days, with room for the kids to run around too. Best when you've got nothing else planned for the afternoon, and can sit back and enjoy it all.

I am lucky to be local to this wonderful restaurant & bar. Both the bar food and the restaurant food is top notch and I especially love the scallop entree. The ribs here are the best you will find for miles, and the serving the biggest! The setting itself is lovely and the service has always been great too. If you haven't visited, it's a must!

A bit of an odd location, (next to Pack n Save) but otherwise a great little spot. You’ve got two tasty burger options, classic flavours with a little pizzaz. There’s the ‘Gourmet Chicken Burger’ which includes pan-seared chicken breast, mango chutney and camembert or the ‘Beef and Bacon Burger’ which comes with roasted capsicum and smoked gouda. Both are served with fries. Tip: come here on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy live acoustic music 4-7pm.

There’s always lots on here for grown-ups and kids. It’s a nice open bar/restaurant with a good menu and they have a kids menu for brunch, mains and dessert - even speciality drinks. Okay there’s the, always on the menu, fluffy but what kid could resist a Pink Panther or a brightly coloured Traffic Light.

A great place to take kids. Our Backyard Pub has an awesome atmosphere, the staff are friendly and there is also a great outdoor area.

If you want a quite drink and meal and are heading to or through Ashhurst head to the Ashhurst Inn. A great spot to stop and stretch your legs or have lunch after going to the Ashhurst Domain their menu is full of classic tasty food. Yummy fresh salads, delicious nachos and classic crumbed fish and chips! Very accommodating to kids with kids menu options available.

When we come to Riversdale in the Christmas holidays our golf playing family members go and play a round of golf then we meet them in the clubhouse for a drink and a meal. They tell me it's a great course and I can vouch for the yummy food they serve!

Speight’s is set back off the main West Quay drag so it’s safer for kids and the family to get to. They have a great dining area upstairs and an amazing kid’s menu . Going with a nautical theme. Try the Shark Attack - battered fresh fillets, salad & fries.

I love coming here with the family, the casual dining atmosphere is a great accompaniment to good company! They do amazing pub grub with meals for kids, and their fries are top notch; it’s great when they’re too hot to eat when they get to the table! Summer is right around the corner and their outdoor dining area is perfect for lunch as there are umbrellas to shield from those UV rays!

Stumpers is always top of my list of places to visit when I’m in Hokitika. A great place for the family, you’ll love their flexible and delicious menu which features the best of the best for kids, including fish and chips and burgers.

The ultimate Christchurch pub, I love Pom’s for their 31 rotating craft beers on tap and in bottles. Their pub fare is incredibly popular and inspired by the motherland. There is al fresco dining, perfect for the whole family.

The Ballarat Trading Company is a great place to hang with the family. It’s a laidback and relaxed affair and is a fun pub to enjoy dinner. Let the kids try the Classic Fish and Chips or Sandwich of the Day with chips.
