Egg-cellent Offerings: These Auckland cafes are voted by locals as serving up the best breakfasts.

A perfect pillowy poached egg slathered in delicious homemade hollandaise, a fantastic mash-up of scramble and hashbrowns or light-as-air pancakes piled with berries and sweet syrup, breakfast is all about personal preference. Yet in a region known for its cafe culture, there are a few places in Auckland that do breakfast or brunch (depending on whether you are an early riser or not) better than all the rest. Here’s our Top 10 in no particular order. If you’ve got a favourite breakfast spot that you like to head to, why not share your love for it on their Localist page? Go on, Auckland make it a good morning every day!

Christina loved Ruby Red Cafe

Great food and atmosphere, I am addicted to the orange cardamon syrup on French toast with bacon - gives maple syrup a run for its money!

Kylie loved Longroom

With a large sunny back deck and a delicious weekend brunch menu, Ponsonby Rd institution Longroom is the Auckland cafe I recommend to any of my friends who are wanting to enjoy a leisurely weekend breakfast. This great Ponsonby local is open for breakfast from 10am - 3pm on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays, serving up a seriously good breakfast and an even better Bloody Mary. Along with their eggs and sourdough (my fave), this is the place I recommend if you're looking for a seriously good breakfast cocktail. If you love tequila, try their speciality brunch drink, the Bloody Maria!

Little & Friday, Belmont

When I crave a breakfast quiche, I travel over the Bridge to the home of Auckland's favourite cafe, Little & Friday, and indulge in one of their classically delectable, cheesy treats. One of my recent loves was for a brussel sprout, bacon and goats cheese tart that made me completely forget my childhood hatred of the bright-green, tightly-bound brassicas. And you can't have breakfast at Little & Friday without enjoying a sweet treat with a (second) coffee. The donuts are to-die-for and what's excellent is that these little cream puff creations totally count as one of the best early morning food groups. Thank you Little & Friday for being in my life and the life of every Aucklander. We adore you!

Goodness Gracious, Newton

If you are uptown in Auckland then this is the place to go for the best breakfast of bodacious bagels. Step inside this little hidden gem on New North Rd and it's like being transported into a bagelry in New York's Lower East Side. Like its name suggests, this great little bagel shop that could serves up delicious versions that truly make you go, "Goodness Gracious, that was good!" And if you are a bit of a yoga/health nut like me then don't miss their kale and banana green smoothie. It's so good it's like you made it at home! Oh and coffee is off the Richter Scale tasty.

Kylie loved Humbug Cafe

There's not much more I need to say about breakfast at Humbug Cafe than free-range bacon, eggs and chicken. This is a cafe that knows foodies like me enjoy revelling in the knowledge of exactly where their ingredients come from. Their eggs bene is a straight-up classic, no fancy frills, just well poached eggs on salty, crispy bacon and drenched in amazing homemade hollandaise. And of course they also do the best coffee in the West (none other than legendary Millers) and so that's why they come out top of the pops for me.

Kylie loved L'oeuf Cafe

Tucked away in the sleepy back blocks of Mt Albert lies one of Auckland's best breakfast spots, no doubt in part because L'oeuf (meaning egg in French) truly lives up to serving some of the tastiest versions of its namesake. But it's not just the eggs that make this cafe a top spot, they do everything consistently well and I love the fact that you can buy a little bit of L'oeuf love to take home. Before a recent roadtrip, I purchased their house almond butter - a great and much healthier alternative to the more traditional peanut - and it was so good I scoffed most of it down the length of State Highway 1. And with 12 extra seats out front, there's even more reason to take your loved ones and enjoy an indulgent Sunday morning in the summer sunshine.

Kylie loved Catroux Cafe

Paleo breakfast is du jour right now and Auckland cutie Catroux proves they are up with the play as always by serving a fantastically health-conscious version that doesn't skimp on taste. So if you are watching your waistline or want to put health before wealth then come here. But if it's a Sunday morning and you like to be a little bit naughty then you need to visit Catroux for the pancakes alone. Light, bright and fluffy as air, this is one of the stand-out breakfast dishes. Plus, they like to change up their variations so if you are a regular like me, you'll never get bored. And if it's breakfast on the run you are after then go for the cheese scone - it's one of Auckland's best.

Kylie loved Ironique

Ironique is well-known for its breakfast fare and tasty brunch treats. But the reason it makes this list is for more than the top quality menu items alone, it's also because of the fact that it has an incredible courtyard where you can easily while away a few luxurious hours on a lazy Sunday. As a foodie fan who tries to seek out the best bacon and eggs a city has to offer, I love the fact that Ironique does this simple breakfast dish so well. Plus, extra points are gained for the fact that they are sometimes known for offering up B 'n' E specials before 11am. Did someone say bacon, eggs and a regular coffee for just $13?

Kylie loved Vevo Foodstore

When you have to travel 40 minutes on a winding road to get your breakfast fix, you know the establishment is one of the best in town. Vevo Foodstore lies in the heart of the native bush haven of Titirangi Village and does the best healthy breakfast dishes in the West. Whenever I need an energy pick-me-up, I'll stop in for a feed of their delicious muesli creations that are full of ingredients known for packing a nutritional punch, such as raw cacao, goji, millet, buckwheat and fruit. They also do beautiful versions of chia seed puddings and incredible smoothie bowls with edible flowers on top.

Kylie loved Panscape

A sexy addition to the Newmarket food scene, Panscape believes that with great ingredients imbued with love allows them to "bake the world a better place" and after stopping by for a Turkish sesame bagel, a coffee and one of their signature sweetie balls, I couldn't agree more. There's lots of options to choose from in their sweets cabinet. But the reason they feature as one of our top spots is for their truly exciting Turkish breakfast platter and their Mediterranean-inspired flavours that imbue their pastries with something just a little different. Every dish has bite so I highly recommend fine purveyors of pastry get in and try Panscape now.
