Foxtrot Flavour: Lemon, caramel, jam or chocolate - inject your own sweetness!
It's official - this city is head over heels for doughnuts. ❤ Whether you're injecting your favourite filling into them at Foxtrot Parlour and Al's Deli or grabbing one on the go at Little & Friday and Scratch Bakers. ❤ Whatever you do, you doughnut want to miss out on the doughy deliciousness of these sweet treats!
Inject your own doughnuts
Injecting your own doughnut with gooey berry coulais might be a little gimmicky but it’s still a lot of fun. This is exactly what’s on offer at Foxtrot Parlour. On a platter you recieve a syringe full of sweet berry sauce or gooey chocolate filling with a crusty empty doughnut. The berry one also comes with a side of cream. Worth it for the experience alone!
Kylie loved Al's Deli
The doughnuts at Al’s Deli make me smile, not only because they taste delectably selfish but more importantly it’s about the fact that they are served up with personality plus. When we visited there was one creation you could inject with lemon meringue but I was swayed by the Bob Marley lyrics ("I Wanna Jam It With You") of their traditional jam and cream option. And don’t miss a date with the ribs or burgers here. $10 burger lunches on a Monday are a winner.
kyle loved Little & Friday Newmarket
Coffee is amazing but what goes better with a coffee than the best baked goods in Auckland? This place has hands down the most amazing donuts, muffins, and the likes in the city! A must do!!!
Evelyn loved Scratch Bakers
Scratch Bakers is a must-visit if you're in the mood for a treat, they have some of the freshest and most delicious baking in the city. Among their impressive list of delights is their amazing doughnuts and the flavours list is pretty impressive including the likes of lemon curd, kiwifruit, cherry vanilla and cranberry. I love the chocolate espresso doughnut although it has quite a caffeine kick so go for the mini version if you want to try its tastiness but don't want the kick in the pants. Scratch is a CBD doughnut heaven and worth multiple visits.
An authentic American experience (just excuse the accents)
Late Night Diner on Ponsonby Road is a rad addition to the Ponsonby scene. Incredible burgers and milkshakes make you feel like you're hanging in a burger bar on Hollywood Blvd, the only thing missing is the American accents - but you'll move past that when you try the deep fried oreo doughnuts - which are INCREDIBLE!
Johnny loved The Mustard Kitchen
I asked the girls at The Mustard Kitchen what their food is all about, and got the super enthusiastic response “we’re a lunch bar but with cafe quality food!” It’s great, their enthusiasm and love for being there is so present in every hand-made food item in this rustic establishment. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been so indecisive about what to eat at a cafe/lunch bar, it really is a mental battle when you have abundant choices of pies (made by their ‘pie hero’), wraps, all sorts of bacon and egg concoctions, stuffed croissants, muffins, slices, and freshly made smoothies and juices staring at you. Take note also: you must not live your life without experiencing the sensation of a Mustard Kitchen cream doughnut moving around your mouth and blowing your mind. Add. To. Bucket. List.
Evelyn loved Little Sister Cafe
Order a cream doughnut from Little Sister Cafe right now because this is one of the best places in Auckland to indulge in this classic Kiwi treat. I like to pull up a pew, get my laptop out and make the most of their free Wi-Fi while indulging in these incredible sweeties. Following on from the amazing doughnuts created at Salvation Kitchen, the owners have brought their unique blend of cream, homemade raspberry jam and doughy delectable, chewy, sugar 'n' cinnamon sprinkled goodies that are their delicious doughnuts. I love them because they are lip-smackingly good and one is never enough!
