This is the place the foodie reviewers of Auckland have been raving about for ages and I finally got the chance to try the deli delights available at this gem of a local takeaway/restaurant in New Lynn. Kebabs aren't normally something I eat but when my friend ordered hers, I had to try one too because they looked (and smelt) so good. There's lots of traditional Turkish food available in the cabinet too to take home and try. Hunt down this spot - it's a goodie!

When it comes to classic Kiwi fare, you can't go past ordering a takeaway from The Hangi Shop in Otahuhu. Honestly, the hangi sandwich is a delicious, oozing treat of goodness and it comes with homemade pickles and watercress so it's traditional as you can get. I also tried the rawene bread and it was amazing as well. Highly recommend this great local takeaway joint in South Auckland.

Babas curry cafe just off Puriri Road in Whenuapai serves up the meanest Indian feed in West Auckland - the service is awesome to with all the waiters and servers being super friendly. You can't miss the place driving past as its painted bright yellow and stands out like crazy. If you're in the area, snug up on the couch and give them a ring - they'll deliver straight to your door - Something I've done at least a dozen times as it's so easy. My favourite is their butter chicken, which has more taste than any I've ever tried, and their garlic naan (which I could easily smash back 3 or 4 of with a curry as they're so good). If you're in Greenhithe, Whenuapai, Herald Island or Hobsonville or Massey East give Babas a ring and get delicious, authentic Indian delivered straight to your door. If not Babas is well worth the long drive out west for some delightful curry deliciousness.

Judging by the queue around dinner time, pretty much everyone in Glenfield has heard about the great value meals available at Glenfield Fast Food. Grab one of their many Chinese dishes or a portion of their tasty fish and chips for a cheap and easy meal option if you can't be bothered cooking and don't want to break the bank.

Time and again this hallowed spot is voted Best Sushi in Auckland by far posher palettes than mine and it was award-winning status that drew me there in the first place. And boy does Bian deliver - the rice is chewy and flavoursome, the wasabi gives a kick in all the right places and the freshness of the fish (and I’ve heard meats) are absolutely stand-out. What does it for me with sushi is the tuna - how good is their tuna sashimi and sushi counterpart? Well at Bian, it’s the best, the very best. Get here now!

Having tried every Indian restaurant in the Birkenhead area (all of which are pretty decent), I never thought to give Mint Leaf a go as it certainly doesn't look too flash from the outside. After a rave review from my workmate, I was pleasantly surprised to find it is actually serves up the best Indian food I have had in a long time. With huge portions sizes and generous helpings of meat in their curries, I have happily returned time and time again.
